DAVAO CITY July 9 (PIA)- Kadayawan Festival's iconic events Indak-Indak (Street Dancing Competiton) and Pamulak (Floral Float Parade) will now be a week apart.
This was bared by City Tourism Operations Office chief Generose Tecson who also serves as this year's festival director.
In the past staging of the festival, Indak-Indak and Pamulak were held in one weekend particularly the third week of August. Indak-Indak is held on Saturday and Pamulak is held on a Sunday and serves as the culmination of the festival.
"This is to ensure that the city will be able to accommodate more visitors during the Kadayawan month," Tecson said during the festival's media launch on Monday (July 8) held at Dusit Thani Davao.
The events of this year's Kadayawan were spread all over the weekends of August instead of holding them in one week. The festival will start with an opening ceremony on August 2.
One of the festival's highlight, the Hiyas ng Kadayawan or the search for the indigenous young lady who will serve as the ambassadress of the city's 11 tribes will be held on August 11.
Cultural performances by the city's 11 indigenous communities will be held for the whole weekends of August at the Kadayawan Village inside the Magsaysay Park.
Habi Kadayawan, a fashion accessory competition will be on August 9, the Dragonboat Festival at the Sta Ana wharf is slated on August 10-11 while the Dula Kadayawan or Tribal Games will be held at the Peoples Park on August 16.
Sayaw Kadayawan or the dance competition participated by the 11 tribes is scheduled on August 16 while Tunog Kadayawan, a songwriting competition will be staged on August 23.
Tecson said the schedule will entice more tourists to come and experience the festival as they will have the whole month of August to do it.
She said they are targeting 250,000 visitors for the 34th Kadayawan Festival. (PIA/RG Alama)
