BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, July 15 (PIA) - The Provincial Council for the Culture and the Arts (PCCA) recently cancelled its yearly IP Summer Workshop and realigned its P4.4M budget as additional fund for culture-based education program for the Indigenous Peoples.
Former Governor Ruth Padilla, PCCA chairperson said the realignment of the IP Summer Workshop budget was made due to the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We have cancelled the IP Summer Workshop because of the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic and channeled the funds instead to other culture-related education programs so that our IPs can still benefit from it," she said.
The provincial government funds the yearly IP Summer Workshop to teach IP children and youth on their cultural traditions and practices as a way of preserving their culture.
Padilla also instructed the Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) to coordinate with the St. Mary's University (SMU) and to wrap - up the funding counterpart of the provincial government in support of the academe's proposed culture and arts-related virtual concert.
The SMU is set to conduct a virtual concert dubbed "Mga Awit ng Pag-asa at Paghilom (Hymns of Hope and Healing)" in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Padilla also bared that the celebration for the 2020 National IP Month in October this year will be simplified due to the COVID-19 pandemic prohibitions. (MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
