FRANKFURT, Aug.4 (Xinhua) -- German stocks edged down on Tuesday, with the benchmark DAX index down 46.11 points, or 0.36 percent, to close at 12,600.87 points.
Multinational chemical and pharmaceutical company Bayer lost 2.43 percent, making it the top loser among the blue chips. It was followed by material manufacturer Covestro and pharmaceutical company Merck, which lost 2.02 percent and 1.91 percent respectively.
The top gainer was Aircraft engine manufacturer MTU Aero Engines, which went up by 5.69 percent. Automotive manufacturers BMW and Daimler advanced 3.43 percent and 2.80 percent respectively.
Multinational software corporation SAP was the most traded share with a turnover of 274.62 million euros (323.09 million U.S. dollars).
China's Haier, a leading global household appliances manufacturer listed in Frankfurt in 2018, lost 1.13 percent to close at 0.79 euros per share on Tuesday.
