BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.34 percent to 3,574.73 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.33 percent higher at 15,262.19 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices came in at 1.3 trillion yuan (about 201 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.21 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to the organosilicon sector led the gains, while those in the traditional Chinese medicine and Baijiu (a type of Chinese liquor) sectors suffered losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, fell 0.44 percent to close at 3,544.44 points.
