Dublin, Ireland: Travel industry officials are advising Irish travelers to be prepared for fast rising costs for upcoming holidays following the Covid lockdowns.
Irish travelers should be prepared for a major jump in prices for flights and accommodations abroad, according to Irish travel expert Fionn Davenport.
Speaking to Newstalk, Davenport said he is advising Irish travelers to book soon, as prices are expected to soar.
"The big advice - and travel agents will say this to you - is book now for your holiday because, obviously, there's a huge desire to try and grab as many customers as they can.So there's huge incentivised deals," said Davenport.
"Once that appetite has been satiated, it's experts' opinion that travel will get more expensive for a couple of years."
Travel industry observers believe prices will increase with the resumption of international trips.
Davenport added that it is thought that the Irish public has more money to spend on international holidays after over two years of lockdown.
"Effectively, most people really haven't done any kind of travelling at all for the last two years. So they have three years' worth of savings," he said.
Aer Lingus recently said they expect significant bookings in various destinations across Europe and the UK, along with ski trips and travel to the U.S.
Among the top destinations for travel in 2022 will be Alicante, Lanzarote, and Faro - considered the destinations of most interest to Irish holiday makers looking to enjoy some sun.
Also, European city breaks have become a popular search term, with an 81 percent increase for Venice and a 70 percent increase in searches for Madrid.
