DUBLIN, Ireland: Weather officials in Ireland have announced that May was the warmest month in 15 years, while rainfall was recorded as below the monthly average in every county.
Ireland's weather agency, the Met Eireann, reported that the average temperature of 13.5C/56F at Shannon Airport in Clare was 1.5C above its long-term average, becoming the warmest since 2008.
Further, Shannon Airport reported its hottest day on May 30, at 24.9C/77F, compared to May's average temperature of 16C/61F.
"High pressure intensified over Ireland during the final week of the month, [bringing] very dry conditions, along with increasing amounts of sunshine.
"Rainfall was below average everywhere and all monthly rainfall totals across the country were below their 1981-2010 Long-Term Average," reported the Met Eireann.
While Ireland continues to see higher than average temperatures nationwide, officials now say the heat should break by the weekend with temperatures returning to the low 20s.
