AUSTIN, Texas: Attorney General Ken Paxton announced over the weekend that the state has launched an investigation into a company, accusing it of possibly violating state laws by labeling its products as "healthy."
The probe focuses on popular cereals such as Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, and Frosted Flakes, which the attorney general's office says contain artificial food colorings linked to health issues.
The office stated that some of WK Kellogg's cereals "are filled with petroleum-based artificial food colorings that have been linked to hyperactivity, obesity, and other conditions.
"In no world should foods that include these dyes be advertised as healthy," Paxton said in the statement.
The attorney general's office also pointed out that while WK Kellogg has removed these artificial dyes from products sold in Canada and Europe, the same changes have not been made in the United States.
WK Kellogg did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
